FORWARD THINKING. It’s a concept that has propelled Sanford & Tatum to one of the premier insurance agencies in the industry. Forward thinking and innovation are also the reasons the company chose Southwest Lubbock as the location for its new headquarters. The agency, a division of HeritageRM, opened its new offices July 11. The new location at 5241 98th St. provides not only a beautiful environment for its employees, but also an 1,800 square feet area for enhanced educational opportunities and advanced security for protection of sensitive information.“The Marion Sanford Education and Training Center was named for the company’s co-founder, who understood and promoted the importance of continuing education. The center features a 120” screen, a high-definition sound system and seating for 50 people, allowing employees to gather corporately for educational seminars and also providing a space where customers can come to learn about new products, regulations and changes to the industry that might directly impact their business,” said Diannah Tatum, co-CEO of HeritageRM. Sanford & Tatum Insurance Agency is a full-line agency, licensed in more than 40 states and trusted by business owners and residents to protect what matters most to them. As an independent insurance agency, they can provide a holistic approach that allows them to compete with larger brokerages, and also honor the values and roots of West Texas. Earlier this year, the agency merged with NCW Insurance in Amarillo to form HeritageRM. “Overall, the merger provides a more powerful and versatile agency,” said Kimberly Dryden,HeritageRM chief growth officer and partner. “We are well-positioned to innovate, compete and serve clients in a rapidly changing industry that is driven by clients that are transforming faster. The depth of resources enables us to tailor a solution for our clientele. In just the first seven months we have seen an amplified ability to meet client needs with greater efficiency, scale and leadership.” “There are many of agents that provide insurance, but we go beyond that to protect all assets with services such as risk management, HR services, loss control, legal compliance and more at no additional charge,” Tatum said. “The merger with NCW provides the opportunity for each agency to remain Independent while creating a greater force in West Texas,” Tatum said. Sanford & Tatum will continue making decisions on a local level, which allows them to continue the support and service its clients have come to expect.
“Our commitment has, and always will be, to the people we serve,” said Douglas Sanford, president OPENING NEW HEADQUARTERS Lead by Principal and Co-CEO, Diannah Tatum Diannah Tatum, CIC - Principal and CO-CEO of Sanford & Tatum Insurance of HeritageRM’s Lubbock branch. He is also the third generation of the Sanford family to serve as president of Sanford & Tatum, and forward-thinking enough to hire Tatum and recognize the potential she had in the industry.
LEADERSHIP.

Tatum worked her way through the various departments, becoming a partner in 1985. She along with Sanford, and her son, Michael Tatum, were partners of the agency before the merger with NCW. Now Rhonda Thomack and Mark Williams have joined Sanford & Tatum as partners, as well. Michael Tatum is commercial lines vice president for HeritageRM, specializing in medical malpractice. Thomack was named vice president in 2006 and specializes in group benefits. Williams is vice president and chief operating officer. NCW has an additional six partners, for a company total of 11 partners.
“Under Diannah’s leadership, the company has been able to stay on the leading edge,” said Sanford. “When we took over from dad, she understood every aspect of the company and has been successful at running it ever since. She has provided much vision for where things are going.” At the new location, it was Tatum’s forethought to have the property and casualty area password secured as well the health care division, which is required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Additionally, the staff has individual client conference rooms, as alternative locations to their offices, where they can meet with clients, to help prevent potential breach of confidential information. “We wanted to be ahead of the curve knowing that information should be protected, so we took steps in designing the new building to ensure that information is kept confidential as well,” Tatum said. “First of all, it’s important our clients know their information is secure. We also anticipate compliance similar to HIPAA will be forthcoming on the property and casualty side, because there is sensitive information required for those policies, as well. “The consultation spaces also provide experts from both areas to work as a team in identifying the right products and services to fully cover the client’s needs,” she said.
COMMUNITY. One thing hasn’t changed with Sanford & Tatum’s relocation, and that’s its core value of giving back to the community that has supported the agency for more than 80 years. Members of the corporate suite are dedicated volunteers to many local organizations including the Better Business Bureau, Lubbock Meals on Wheels, South Plains Food Bank and the development boards of Covenant Heart & Vascular Institute and children’s Hospital, as well as the Joe Arrington Cancer Center. Sanford served last year as campaign chair for the Lubbock Area United Way, and Tatum is the chair-elect of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Also, Sanford & Tatum is one of the few insurance agencies in Lubbock to offer medical malpractice, so they are pleased to share their expertise with the Texas Tech community. Michael Tatum has taught classes for gratis along with Sanford, an expert in oil and gas insurance. The company’s efforts have been recognized with the Outstanding Philanthropic Organization Award and the Drex Forman Award as well as named the Eagle Agency and IIABA Best Practices Agency. This year has brought exciting changes for Sanford & Tatum Insurance Agency, but one thing that will always remain consistent is the service and support they offer to protect what matters most to the business owners and individuals they serve.
